The projectile component of a cartridge — not the entire round.

The bullet is the part that leaves the barrel — the projectile only. The cartridge is the complete unit (case + primer + powder + bullet). Conflating bullet with cartridge is a common error in popular media. Bullet construction varies enormously: full metal jacket, hollow point, soft point, monolithic, frangible, and more.
