Cartridge

A complete unit of ammunition: case, primer, powder, and bullet.

Also: round

A cartridge is what gets loaded into a chamber. It comprises four components: the case (usually brass), which holds everything together; the primer, a small impact-sensitive cap at the case head; the powder (smokeless propellant); and the bullet, the projectile seated in the case mouth. Round is a casual synonym.
