Firing Pin
The component that strikes the primer to ignite the cartridge.
The firing pin is a small steel pin driven by the hammer (or by spring tension in striker-fired guns) that hits the primer of a chambered cartridge. The primer’s impact-sensitive compound ignites the powder, firing the round. A broken or worn firing pin is one of the most common causes of misfires.
