Frame
The main body of a handgun that houses the action.

The frame is the central structure of a handgun (revolver or semi-auto pistol). It’s the serialized component — legally the firearm under US federal law. On a semi-auto, the slide rides on top of it; on a revolver, the cylinder swings out from it.
