Receiver
The serialized portion of a firearm that holds the action; legally the firearm itself.
The receiver is the structural core that holds the bolt, trigger group, and barrel attachment. Under US federal law, the receiver IS the firearm — it carries the serial number and is what’s legally transferred. On AR-pattern rifles, the lower receiver is the serialized part; the upper is an unregulated component.
