Rifling
Spiral grooves cut into the bore that spin the bullet for stability.
Rifling consists of helical grooves cut (or pressed) into the inside of the barrel. As the bullet travels down the bore, the grooves engage it and spin it about its long axis. This gyroscopic stability keeps the bullet pointed forward in flight, dramatically improving accuracy. Twist rate describes how tight the spiral is.
