Safety
A mechanical device intended to prevent unintentional discharge.
A safety is a lever, button, or grip device that blocks the firearm from firing. Common types include thumb safeties, grip safeties, trigger safeties, and decockers. A mechanical safety is never a substitute for the four rules — treat every firearm as if its safety doesn’t work.
