A slug is a single, large bullet-like projectile in a shotgun shell — used where a single high-energy hit is needed, especially for large game or in jurisdictions where rifles are restricted. Foster slugs are designed for smoothbore barrels; sabot slugs require a rifled shotgun barrel for accuracy.
