Striker
A spring-loaded firing pin used in place of a hammer in many modern pistols.
A striker combines the firing pin and hammer into one spring-loaded assembly. When the trigger is pulled, the striker is released forward to hit the primer. Striker-fired pistols (Glock, M&P, Walther PPQ, Sig P320, etc.) dominate the modern defensive handgun market.
